Andretti-Cadillac’s bid was approved by FIA, and the team is looking to join the F1 grid by 2025. However, Andretti must create a commercial agreement with F1 before it enters the sport. Moreover, the proposed team has faced heavy protests from the drivers and team bosses around the grid in the past few weeks.
General Motors also reportedly received a request to abandon Andretti-Cadillac and acquire another existing team on the grid. However, the team reassured that they would enter Formula 1 only if strictly partnered with Andretti-Cadillac.

General Motors is now desperate to clear the impasse and cement the entry of Andretti-Cadillac into Formula 1. Some reports claim that F1 boss Stefano Domenicali has stopped returning calls and texts from GM representatives for this matter. Hence, GM will reportedly send a few representatives to the Las Vegas GP to establish physical communication with the boss over the matter.
General Motors President Mark Reuss talked about the commitment of the two giants’ partnership before entering the sport. Subsequently, he claimed that the entry of the two entities will be unique in the world of F1 and will result in a successful stint in Formula 1.
GM is committed to partnering with Andretti to race in F1. The collaboration between Andretti-Cadillac brings together two unique entities built for racing, both with long pedigrees of success in motorsport globally.
Reuss told apnews.com.
Andretti-Cadillac has pledged to remain an American team after its entry into Formula 1 and not change the partners down the line. The team also claimed that Colton Herta [IndyCar driver] will be the primary driver for the team’s lineup after its arrival into Formula 1. The increasing American involvement in the sport might favor Andretti-Cadillac’s bid to enter F1 after all.
Why is everyone opposing the arrival of Andretti-Cadillac?
The team would be the 11th on the grid after entering Formula 1. The prize pot for all the teams would be then distributed between 11 teams as compared to the current 10-team distribution. Multiple team bosses have raised issues on the funding of the sport after this and urged Liberty Media to put forth a clear statement regarding the team’s funding.

Multiple drivers also talked about the increased competition and traffic conditions on the field by including 12 drivers on the grid and adding Andretti-Cadillac. Additionally, Michael Andretti added that people around the paddock consider the Andretti’s people as a bunch of hillbillies who are unaware of racing in Formula 1. Regardless, Andretti has talked about the positives of the new addition.
Andretti’s bid to join Formula 1 seems promising, as the team has made some great points about its arrival. The American involvement would surely bring a lot of American fans and sponsorships, which are very crucial and advantageous for Formula 1. Andretti finally talked about the fantastic plan that the team had for its entry into the sport.
