“Haas will bet on a veteran,” Redbull F1 advisor Helmut Marko believes that Mick Schumacher will be out of a seat after this season

In recent times, there has been a growing amount of speculation regarding the second seat at Haas. Dr Helmut Marko is has a firm belief that the second seat will be occupied by a German next year but not the one that you might be thinking of. Among the potential prospects to partner Kevin Magnussen for 2023, two German nationals have topped the list .
Mick Schumacher who currently races for Haas and Nico Hulkenberg who was a reserve driver for Aston Martin prior to a few days back are the top two candidates being considered for a role. Mick is a good driver but he just isn’t able to get onto the level of his teammate yet. The driver has billed the team with a humongous amount of damage repair costs over his stint with the team which have become unbearable to a certain point.
Nico Hulkenberg on the other hand seems to have created a lasting impression at the paddock with his insane skills to adapt to a car right from the moment he gets in. This along with multiple years of experience have made him a very good candidate for the American F1 team. Here is what Redbull advisor Dr Helmut Marko had to say about who will get the 2023 Haas seat.
Dr Helmut Marko believes that Nico Hulkenberg will get the Haas seat
Here is what Mr Marko had to say about the second seat at Haas and Schumacher’s situation. “When a team publicly criticises a driver so massively, as was sometimes the case, it shows there is no sign of trust,” Marko told German broadcaster ntv. “The situation at Haas is they have an experienced driver in Magnussen and if there was a great up-and-coming talent, I would bet on him,” he said.
“But I don’t see anyone at the moment who would have these requirements. And from a team perspective, there’s a lot of money at stake in the Constructors’ World Championship. Whether you’re tenth or eighth, that’s a difference of millions of dollars. I assume Haas will bet on a veteran,” he continued.
Some reports are suggesting that Haas will announce Nico Hulkenberg as their driver next week on Thursday. Mick is a good driver but truth be told, there is much more room to improve which Haas cannot afford frankly. With his contract with the FDA also expired, Schumacher’s future seems uncertain. That being said, Nico would make a great addition to the team who would go back to having two experienced drivers competing for them.
