“He can be quite difficult,” Paul Di Resta questions the friction between Esteban Ocon and his teammates of the past and present

Paul Di Resta and Esteban Ocon
With the whole saga at Alpine in the past few weeks, it is now uncertain as to who will be Esteban Ocon’s new teammate for next year. With Fernando joining Aston Martin for 2023 and Oscar Piastri joining McLaren, it will be interesting to see who they partner the French driver up with. Ocon said he had no problems with Pierre Gasly being his teammate, although there has already been a lot of friction between the two drivers in the past.
Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly have known each other since they were kids and racing each other. They weren’t friends during that time and to this day, they still aren’t. Although there are multiple rumours which connect Gasly to a seat at Alpine next year. Apparently Red Bull wants Colton Herta at AlphaTauri alongside Yuki Tsunoda and that they will release Pierre to join Alpine as soon as that move is done.
Esteban had stated before that he would prefer Mick Schumacher as his teammate at Alpine next year, although this doesn’t seem like a possibility as Gasly is heavily rumoured to join the team.
Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly are both proven Grand Prix winners. The former won the Hungarian GP in 2021 whilst the latter won the Italian GP in 2020. Ocon thinks that he has a good relationship with his fellow Frenchman. Ocon even stated that he would have no problem in working with him. Former F1 driver turned pundit, Paul Di Resta on the other hand is not at all convinced by this. Paul shared his thoughts on the ongoing situation.
“I don’t think too many teammates get on with Ocon” Paul Di Resta on Esteban Ocon and his teammate problem

“I don’t think too many teammates get on with Ocon, to be honest. You heard Fernando on the radio. They work together on track but off it? He can be quite difficult. Sergio Perez had the same issue”, he said.
This reminds me of the Force India days where Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez was downright ready to punch each other. Either they used to come in contact with each other or just simply ruin their race. Those were tense times. With Perez now at Red Bull, he seems to get along well with Verstappen but it really makes you think if Esteban Ocon is able to connect with his teammates or not? We’ll have to see if that will be the same case in 2023.
