Valtteri Bottas, the Alfa Romeo F1 driver, has recently talked about his rookie teammate and indicated that he is happy after seeing Zhou Guanyu sign a new contract with the team for next year.
Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu joined the Ferrari sister team this year, and while the former joined Alfa Romeo on a multi-year deal, the Chinese rookie driver was only awarded a 1-year contract.
However, with the recent announcement of Zhou Guanyu staying on board the Hinwil-based F1 team for 2023, Bottas is pleased and while talking about Guanyu, said, “I think it’s good news because following him alongside as a teammate, I really can say that he deserves the spot in the team and in F1.”
“He’s really mature for his age and experience, and he’s been learning a lot throughout the year and his pace has been increasing in qualifying and races throughout the year and he has done very few mistakes. So I think it’s good news, and I’m sure he keeps evolving and keeps improving in the future.”
The Finn has backed the 23-year-old by saying that he has evolved a lot in his first year in F1 and feels that he would be able to further improve on his performances during the next season of the sport.

Zhou Guanyu made the jump from Formula 2 to the pinnacle of motor racing this year and barring the technical difficulties that the team has faced, he has done well for himself.
Moreover, Bottas was recently asked what has impressed him the most about Guanyu, and while responding to the query, the former Mercedes man said, “How few mistakes has he’s done? Because it’s not easy to jump into F1 and for sure, he’s got lots of outside pressure as well being the first Chinese driver and everything, but he’s dealt with everything in a really good way.”
Valtteri Bottas has been left very impressed by what Zhou Guanyu has been able to do in his young F1 career and ardently believes that he has dealt with the outside pressure well.
The 2022 F1 season has got 6 races left on the calendar and considering that the upcoming Singapore GP is going to be Guanyu’s first outing at the street circuit, it will be fascinating to see how he will go about doing his thing there.
