“He is fundamentally honest with himself,” David Tremayne predicts George Russell to have a successful career in Formula 1
George Russell
George Russell’s start to the 2022 season has been one of the most consistent on the grid. He bagged his first podium in only his third race for Mercedes and has recorded a top 5 finish in every race of the season so far. Yet it can be seen that he struggled a bit with the new car, mostly due to the bouncing effect- porpoising- probably the most on the grid.
Coming from Williams, George showed great confidence in Silver Arrows. With his great drive, he has outperformed his teammate, the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, who is struggling more with the porpoising.
David Tremayne, the journalist, speaking on George Russell, said, “One of the things I’ve always respected most about him is that he says what he thinks. To me that is the sign not only of one who is fundamentally honest with himself, but has the inner confidence to be their own man. Unusual for one still so young.”
George Russell’s future at Mercedes
Williams signed George Russell after he won the F2 championship. Having driven for the team, Russell got the first chance to have a go at Mercedes in 2020, when Lewis Hamilton was tested for covid-19.
The Briton signed for Mercedes for the 2022 season for two years, and since his early signs of great driving in a troublesome Mercedes W13 have been promising, a contract extension should not be a problem next year or whenever the talks are initiated.
It was astonishing that it took him only three races to get on the podium in Australia. His driving has been fierce and fearless, as we saw in Miami, where he came from behind at P12 to finish P5, just behind the two Ferraris and Red Bulls. All of these show his great adaptability to the car and present George as a potential world champion if a car is strong enough to fight.
