“He is gaining confidence in himself,” Mika Hakkinen showers heaps of praise on Mick Schumacher following an impressive drive in Austria
Mika Hakkinen
Mika Hakkinen a two-time world champion, came out with all praises for the Haas driver Mick Schumacher. Mick finish a P6 in the Austrian GP, his best-ever finish in his career, after a fascinating drive against the likes of Lewis Hamilton. Haas secured another double point with Kevin Magnussen on P9. Mika appreciated the driver for beating his experienced teammate.
Mick was criticized for his performance in the early races of the season. He underperformed a well-developed car and also suffered huge crashes costing his team a bulk of bags. But things after the British Grand Prix looks a bit turned with Schumacher first fighting Max Verstappen for the points and recently fighting Lewis for his position. People all over the media have framed Mick regaining his father’s form and so does Mika.
“I was really happy to see Mick Schumacher drive another strong race for Haas and finish 6th, two places ahead of his experienced teammate Kevin Magnussen. Mick gets a lot of attention because of his father’s reputation, and that brings pressure with it. However he is a very calm, mature young guy – still only 23 – and he is clearly gaining confidence in himself and his car, ” said Mika Hakkinen.
Mika Hakkinen now expects more from the 23-year-old Mick Schumacher
After getting back to his form Mika expects more from Mick with the car he has this year, 2021 was expected to be a poor season for the new driver considering the car he had throughout the season. But with a much better car in 2022 Haas is all set to fight the battles in the mid-field.
“Last season was his first in F1, a year to learn during which Haas did not have a competitive car. This year we can see that the team has made good progress with the new car and regulations, so the chance is there for Mick to really show his capability, ” said Mika.
Haas now is ahead of Alpha Tauri on P7 in the championship table, their best position in the last few seasons. Now they expect to get more and more points to a bag fighting for positions ahead. Haas has 34 points in the bag with Kevin and Mick on P11 and P15 respectively in the driver’s championship.
