Jody Egginton, Alpha Tauri’s technical director, praised Pierre Gasly for his straight-up face after the demotion to his previous team Toro Rosso, now Alpha Tauri. Pierre joined Torro Rosso from Red Bull academy and was kept in place of Daniel Ricciardo after the Australian took a leave from Red Bull after 2018. Pierre didn’t manage to compete really well in the Red Bull that managed to take away a few wins that season with not the best car around the circuit.

Pierre was on 63 points after 12 races when he was demoted to Toro Rosso with Alex Albon as his replacement. Pierre was called upon for not performing on the level of Max Verstappen. Jody came out with an appreciation for the mentality the French man carried throughout this process and he took upon things on the very first day.

“He was straight back on it, it was like he’d never been away. And I have to say it’s a credit to him that he just got on with it. You know, there was no sad face or anything, and straight away we were really happy to be working with him again,” said Jody Egginton.

Pierre since then hasn’t kept away his aim to get back on the Red Bull much far behind and has kept levelling up his performance, Jody took Mark of it as well. “I think Pierre himself has been clear in explaining his feelings and emotions over that,” said Jody.

Gasly with all his force got himself into the car to prove his worth again to the Red Bull team, he worked with the engineers to get his car done well and prepared for the best in all races.

“It’s often said, you know, you learn from good and bad experiences, but he came back a better driver and he came back mentally strong – which is why I say there was no big drama really, “ said the Technical Director.

“He knew what he wanted to do, he knew where he wanted to go. We were at a point where we had a bit of an upturn in form, the car was looking good, [and] he contributed to the development of that car, ” Jody continued.

Pierre managed to score his first podium in Brazil the same year after beating his luck all around the season. He later went on to take more podiums and even a race win with the same Alpha Tauri/Toro Rosso team. But things still seem faded for the 26-year-old as Sergio Perez signed his contract with Red Bull till the end of 2024.
