Helmut Marko breaks silence on who might replace Daniel Ricciardo at Alpha Tauri for the Dutch GP following wrist injury

Daniel Riccardo recently made his comeback in formula 1 replacing Nyck de Vries in Alpha Tauri. Unfortunately, Riccardo had a wrist injury which might render him unable to drive throughout the remainder of the season.

Riccardo crashed during the second practice of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. He was immediately taken to the hospital for a checkup and the reports indicated that he has fractured his wrist.

The Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko has confirmed that pertaining to the injuries, Riccardo will be unable to drive in the Dutch Grand Prix and Liam Lawson will be replacing him, while also making his formula 1 debut.

Speaking on the situation, Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko has said, “We don’t know exactly what it is yet, but [Ricciardo] was in a lot of pain. His wrist has suffered damage, but we have to wait for a diagnosis. He is in the hospital. This is a new situation for us. We first wait to see how Ricciardo is doing and whether he can drive or not. Then we discuss it [who gets in the car]”

Who is Liam Lawson?

Liam Lawson is a New Zealand born racing driver who has previously driven in Formula 2 and Super Formula Championship. He has been the reserve driver for both Red Bull and Alpha Tauri.

He is mentored by Ken Smith, a former racing driver and has achieved a lot of success in the lower racing grids. The Dutch grand prix will give the 22 year old a chance to showcase his talent in the highest platform of racing. Fans are all set to see the performance of Liam Lawson.
