The Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko commented on Sergio Perez’s wild outing at the Dutch GP. The Mexican driver finished P4 even after crossing the chequered flag in third place after his time penalty. Marko deems Perez’s finish, in a race which consisted of a Turn 1 spin, A few laps leading the pack, A pit lane crash, and many more, undeserved.
The Red Bull driver locked his brakes and had a light contact against the barrier going into Turn 1 at a later stage in the race, Marko claimed that Perez wouldn’t have finished the race had the team not been able to mend the damage under the red flag. He said, “On the extreme wet tyres he was too late on the brakes, and there he was lucky because the car was damaged, the front wing, and without the red flag, he wouldn’t have finished the race.”
He also commented on Perez’s pitstop to get on to the intermediate tyres early on in the race which granted him the lead of over 10 secs in the Grand Prix and on Perez locking up and crashing against the pit lane wall while entering for a pitstop and the resulting five second penalty. Saying, “He was lucky with his pitstop that gave him the lead. And then, when he came into the pits, he crashed quite heavily into the wall. And also got a 5-second penalty.”

Perez lost his lead of over 10 secs as his teammate, the World Champion, chased him down and eventually took over the lead through an undercut while changing back onto the slick tyres. The Mexican Driver attained the lead through a clever call to put on the intermediate tyres at the end of the first lap.
While Perez did get on the radio to enquire his race engineer about how Verstappen had ended up back in front, as Verstappen didn’t overtake on track, he made less of the moment while speaking to the media post-race. he said, “I think that, on those scenarios, the team just has more information than we do at the time, So it’s something we obviously will review during the [post-race] meeting, and I’m sure there’s a reason behind it.”
With Verstappen’s form and Helmut Marko’s comments, it will be interesting to see how Checo’s future pans out with Red Bull.
