Liam Lawson has been the latest rookie to impress Red Bull and the rest of the F1 paddock. While the Kiwi had previously tested an F1 car with Red Bull on multiple occasions, the call to race didn’t quite come to him. After Pierre Gasly left AlphaTauri to join Alpine at the end of 2022, it was Nyck De Vries who got his seat instead of Liam. However, the tide turned pretty quickly.
Daniel Ricciardo replaced De Vires at AlphaTauri after just 10 races. However, the Australian driver suffered a wrist fracture at the Dutch GP and will be unable to race. That’s where Liam had come to play and is subbing for the Injured 8 time GP winner. His recent performance at Monza, where he grabbed P11, was massively impressive for the whole paddock. This includes Dr Helmut Marko who is pleased with his performance so far.
In an interview, here is what Dr Marko had to say about the Kiwi and his future at Red Bull. “Liam has been with us for a while. He is a tough but very smart man in a fight, a bit like Bruce McLaren. This is certainly someone for the future. “The speed was there [last weekend in Italy], and that is a good sign,” Marko told ServusTV. Will he get a [full-time] seat instead of [staying] a reserve driver? That could happen quickly,” he stated.
Daniel Ricciardo will be able to return to racing by the Qatar GP
The Qatar GP takes place on 8th October. Daniel Ricciardo has already missed the Dutch and Italian Grand Prix. Now, he is projected to also miss Singapore and Japan races that will be taking place in the month of September. However, if he is able to recover fast, a return to racing at Singapore is also a possibility. However, with it being a demanding circuit, it will be interesting to see if Red Bull want to take the risk.
Daniel has also made his intentions clear about his enthusiasm to race in Las Vegas. Thankfully, his dreams will come true as he will be physically ready to race in the City of Sin and the injury will have healed easily by then. On the other hand, Max Verstappen broke Sebastian Vettel’s record for consecutive wins last weekend by winning his 10th race in a row. While Liam Lawson finished outside the points in 11th, his performances will not be going unnoticed.
