Helmut Marko reveals Red Bull’s interest in Mick Schumacher after sudden upsurge in form
Helmut and Mick
Helmut Marko the Red Bull team adviser has recently revealed that the Milton-Keynes-based team is keeping a close watch over the Haas F1 team driver Mick Schumacher.
Mick Schumacher has found a sudden gear shift at the American team in the last two races, after struggling during the first phase of the season, the German has found a sudden upsurge in form and it has caught the keen eyes of the hierarchy at Red Bull.
Mick scored the first F1 points of his career in Silverstone where he was able to land his car in P8 and immediately after, at the Red Bull Ring, the 23-year-old was able to manage a P6 during which he was able to keep the former 7-time Champion Lewis Hamilton at bay for a brief period.
Moreover, at Silverstone Schumacher was able to go tow to tow with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, and from then onwards Helmut and Co. have been keeping close tabs on the young german.
Mick’s performances have got people talking up and down the paddock and if he is able to carry on with his form, then it is only going to attract more and more interest.
Helmut Marko believes pressure is good for Mick Schumacher
Mick Schumacher had a horrendous start to his 2022 campaign during which he crashed his car a couple of times and for that, came under heavy criticism from team Principal Guenther Steiner.
Marko believes that the added pressure that Mick had on his shoulders ever since Steiner’s harsh assessment has helped him in getting his act together and while stressing about the German’s outing in Canada said, “Without the technical defect in Montreal, he would have finished in the points there.”
Marko has further added, “The beginnings are there – it seems he needs real pressure and criticism, then it works.“
“We follow young drivers in general.”
Helmut is very optimistic about the future of Mick Schumacher after seeing his performances and given that Sergio Perez is contracted to Red Bull till 2024, a potential seat could open up for Mick if he is able to show growth consistently. What do you think about seeing Mick Schumacher on the Red Bull team?
