“Honestly, it’s a joke. Clown show,” Max Verstappen swears to never race in the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans

During the last few days, there has been a lot of excitement amongst the Formula 1 fans as it was revealed that Max Verstappen will be returning to competitive racing for the first time after his brilliant 2022 F1 win–but online, at the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Dutchman’s followers were eagerly waiting to follow his race and cheer on him to grab the first position. And indeed, Max was proceeding quite well as he was leading the pack. Unfortunately, at one point in the race, Max’s connection went out and he was thrown out of the game.

Upon reconnecting, Max tried his best to gain back his lead but he was so far behind, that his team, Red Line, decided to withdraw his car from the race. The ruthless end of Max Verstappen’s run at the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans left the two-time World Champion very upset. He admitted that he had put in a lot of practice and efforts into the virtual racing contest and he felt it was unfair that he lost just because of poor internet connection. Thus, he has now vowed to never return to this race again as he feel it is a “clown show”.

Max Verstappen is known to be one of the most competitive racers when it comes to the current F1 grid. Even when he is not doing any physical races, he always wants to win and he puts an unimaginable level of practice to make sure his techniques are flawless. But after all those efforts, when his game got disconnected and he lost because of the internet, he felt such virtual events should never be held because they are not even an actual event.

The virtual edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans started witnessing several issues right from the start as the developers picked up some security defaults and had to Red Flag the race. On top of that, Max Verstappen, who was leading the race, got disconnected in the middle and had to walk out in the end. Thus, the Dutchman did not hold back when he said on his Twitch channel, “This is the last time I am ever participating. Because what’s the point? You prepare for five months trying to win this championship, you’re leading the championship, you’re trying to win this race for which you prepare for two months.

He also said, “Honestly it’s a joke, you can’t call this an event. Clown show.” Max argued that the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans tests a driver’s luck and not his ability per se. He even went ahead and said he would have better chances at winning if he had gone to a casino in Las Vegas, where the participants have to place bets based on pure luck. Max Verstappen’s rant on the virtual race has gone viral on social media as his claims have been backed by fans who believe the game’s developers should have been more careful about the technical glitches.
