Hungarian GP 2022: Weather Prediction including a wet qualifying session

Hungarian Grand Prix

The sun shone brightly in France, but in Hungary things can be quite otherwise. Warm temperatures are expected, but Saturday is expected to bring heavy rain with a potential of thunderstorms to Budapest.

The weekend at the Hungaroring appears to be off to a fast start. The prediction indicates that temperatures as high as 34 degrees Celsius and an easterly breeze of about 12 kilometres per hour can be anticipated on Friday.

The weather will improve on Saturday. Budapest is expected to see an 83 percent chance of rain and a low of 27 degrees Celsius. In addition to precipitation, there is a good risk of thunderstorms, and a northwest wind with a speed of 15 to 25 kph will blow.

After Imola, Canada, and Great Britain, the fourth Grand Prix weekend in 2022 with wet qualifying might be in Hungary. Even though Sunday’s 24 percent chance of rain is substantially lower than Saturday’s, as the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix demonstrated, even a light downpour may completely alter the course of the race.

Last year’s race saw many drivers abandon due to start collisions after a downpour soon before the start. 7-time Formula One World Champion  Lewis Hamilton was the only driver who did not switch from his intermediate tyres to slicks at the resumption. Alpine driver Esteban Ocon unexpectedly came in front at the finish line as a result.
