Kevin Magnussen was fired by Haas after a disappointing 2020 season. Guenther Steiner felt that substantial changes were needed to bring the team back on track. This meant both the drivers were dropped and replaced by Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher. But the season didn’t go according to plan for Guenther Steiner and Haas as both the rookies couldn’t live up to the expectations of Formula 1.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine meant that Haas decided to take a staunch stand against war and dropped Nikita Mazepin and the Russian Sponsors, Uralkali. This led to a very difficult situation for the American team had only one driver in their ranks. That is when they decided to bring back one of their own. Kevin Magnussen was offered to come back and driver for his old team. The Danish driver obliged to do so.

Kevin Magnussen has looked like a different driver altogether and it seems like that year or so away from the track has done him a world of good. The Danish driver ever since his return has registered 15 points to his name and finds himself 10th in the driver standings. He even had the best finish of his career as he finished P5 in Bahrain. There has seemed to be a different kind of energy about Kevin Magnussen this year around.

Kevin Magnussen recently spilled the beans behind his success ever since his return. The Danish driver said, “I don’t feel like I have this big weight on my shoulders of expectation.”

“I would love to be Formula 1 champion. It’s still as much a dream, but I don’t think I have the same kind of expectation. If it happens, I’d be super happy.”

“And I’m here now in the sport, I have a seat, so everything is possible. But I don’t feel like some weight off my shoulders,” as reported by motorsport.

Kevin Magnussen has been in a rich vein of form for the American team. Haas would want him to keep up the same form and make it as successful season after a disastrous 2021 season.
