“I hope that I’m going to be there,” Valtteri Bottas keen on staying with Sauber when Audi enters in 2026
Valtteri Bottas
Alfa Romeo pilot Valtteri Bottas joined the team this year following his departure from Mercedes after they won theirs 8th Constructors championship. Since then, we have gotten to see a more calm and relaxed Finn. Bottas has gone on to do pretty well with a team like Sauber. During the month of August, Audi went on to make an announcement that came as no surprise for the fans.
The Automotive giant announced their plans to join F1 as a power unit manufacturer in 2026. This announcement was made during the Belgian GP weekend. Audi confirmed that they will be joining Sauber as they new engine regulations will come in place. This seems like an opportunity that Valtteri Bottas wouldn’t want to pass at all. Alfa Romeo’s title sponsorship for Sauber will be ending after the final two races of the season.
After racing with Mercedes for 5 years, it was a change of scenery for Valtteri Bottas as he joined Sauber this year. The level of pressure amounting to his stint with the Brackley based team was a lot compared to the calm and composed environment at Sauber which seems to have resided well with the Finn. Here is what he had to say on staying with Sauber till their Audi takeover.
Valtteri Bottas is fully on board for the Audi Sauber takeover
Here is what the Finn had to say when asked if he was hoping to stick around for the Audi Sauber partnership in Mexico. “Why not? I’m 33 years old, so I hope that I’m going to be there.” Valtteri Bottas said that Audi’s entry in the sport will help keep both him and the team motivated in the coming years. “I would say yes, because if you look at the big picture, I think it’s huge. There’s big potential for Sauber with Audi,” he said.
“No doubt they want to succeed in the future. They want to do well and show they’re serious. So, I think for any driver on the grid, especially for me now being already part of Sauber, it would be very interesting to be part of that project. I definitely think it’s possible,” he continued.
Sauber and Audi joining forces to compete in 2026 lies in a grey area. With the German manufacturer developing their engine for 2026, a lot of problems will be there to tackle. Thankfully, the German car manufacturer will have a lot of support from Valtteri Bottas and the whole team as they move ahead with this transition into a new era of the sport.
