“I knew we had made a good car,” Mattia Binotto following Ferrari’s flawless pre-season testing in Barcelona
Mattia Binotto
Mattia Binotto, in his recent interview, has spoken about how confident Ferrari has been since the first run during the pre-season testing in Barcelona. His statement sounds straight out from a movie, which you can imagine hearing in any strong actor’s voice.
Coming out from the testing, the Ferrari’s boss tried to bluff by putting his stakes on Red Bull and Mercedes. But, anyone who saw as much as the highlights of the session knew how good the Ferrari looked. And that’s also the time when Binotto himself knew they had a beast on their hands.
Whilst speaking with Corriere, Mattia said, “From the data it was obvious. After the first day of testing in Barcelona, I had the confirmation. Sometimes just one “run” is enough: if the driver smiles, you understand that the car was born well. They taught me that, and it’s true.”
Mattia Binotto recalls Michael Schumacher’s days
Ferrari hasn’t looked as powerful as they are in this season for decades now. It has already been over ten years since Kimi Raikkonen became the world champion with the team.
Now, it seems with Charles Leclerc in the lead, Ferrari has got quite some chance to win it this year. Mattia Binotto said that Leclerc’s victory in Australia, which came with a margin of 20 seconds to the second-placed Sergio Perez, reminded him of Michael Schumacher’s era with Ferrari. Mattia said, “At times, it seemed to me that I was reliving those good times. We haven’t won with such a performance advantage in a long time.”
Mattia Binotto has been with Ferrari since 1995, and has been part of their golden era of early 00s, when Michael Schumacher won five consecutive championships from 2000-04. Team started to compete for wins during his tenure as the CTO from 2016 until his final promotion as team principal. He has been pivotal in bringing back golden days to Ferrari in 2022.
