“I think the choice was right,” Mattia Binotto slams all the criticism considering ‘regrets: Monaco yes, Silverstone no’
Mattia Binotto
Mattia Binotto, Ferrari’s team principal, has been a hot topic the last few weeks. With Ferrari again cutting all the wires connecting them to the championship all because of the mistakes they made. Mattia Binotto backed his team in between all the criticism they have received recently. Of a bunch of mistakes the team made this season, Binotto considers only one of them as an error.
Ferrari have lost a clear chance to dominate the championship if things would have been right. But with the team having issues with every other race, things are way off the charts. Ferrari has the fastest car on track right now, but with the mistakes done by the strategist and drivers, they have had human errors to deal with the most. Reliability has also been a serious issue with the Italian team, they have already lost races from lead just because of their engine blow-up.
Mattia Binotto acknowledged all the chances he and his team had missed out on that could have turned the championship upside down.
“We could have won five more races, but for one reason or another, it didn’t happen. We had some reliability problems, which is a technical issue, but we have to keep working hard and looking forward,” understands Mattia.
“We could have been 9-3 in terms of victories because we always had problems when we were in the lead, Red Bull always when it was behind,” he said.
Mattia Binotto only considers Monaco as the team’s only mistake
Excluding the reliability issues and driver faults, Ferrari has lost three races just because of the blunders they made sitting in the pit wall. Monaco, Silverstone and the last weekend at Hungary are the three major disaster classes the Italian team provided their fans with. Monaco and Hungary being a mistake with their pitting strategy, Silverstone could be counted under the tally of Charles Leclerc not being selected as the number one driver.
But Mattia only considers Monaco as the only fault the team made, the rest would be the same even if he got a chance to recharge it.
“I’d like to play Monaco all over again: not having won there starting from the front row is almost incredible, then it started raining when we were on the grid and everything happened; for Silverstone, I’m sorry how it turned out but I think the choice was right,” said Mattia Binotto.
Ferrari is 100 points off the lead of the championship, they have lost all the races to Red Bull. Charles Leclerc is 80 points behind Max Verstappen after losing out races from lead most of the time.
