“I want to win races,” Romain Grosjean lays out the conditions for his future F1 return

Romain Grosjean, who last drove in F1 for Haas in 2020, when he suffered from a terrible crash at the Bahrain GP, is having a great time in the IndyCar series. Having signed with one of the best teams on the grid in America, Andretti Autosport, good times are on the cards this season for the French driver.
Speaking with racingnews365.com, Grosjean talked about the new cars in F1 and his future and a possible return to the premier racing championship. But to everyone’s surprise, he made it clear that he won’t be coming back unless the return is with any of the top teams, i.e., the Red Bull, Ferrari or Mercedes. Expressing his desire to have a chance to win regularly, Romain Grosjean has said that he’d have passed the opportunity to return at Haas had they decided to contact him and not his teammate in 2020 and current Haas driver, Kevin Magnussen.
Grosjean said, “I watch every race. I’m a fan of it. Do I want to come back? No, not unless I get the chance to be in a Red Bull, Mercedes or Ferrari, but I love watching it… I want to win races, right? A lot of people ask me if I would love to come back to Haas – and they do a good job – but I want to have the chance to win a race every weekend.”

Chances of Romain Grosjean coming back?
Having laid out his conditions in front, Grosjean has posted himself as available for any of the top players, just like any other driver would do, in a whiff. But considering that if a mid-table team approaches him and he’d pass, let’s look at the chances of him coming back.
Considering Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari to be his desired destination, the competition is tough for the 36-year old. Amongst all the six drivers of these teams, only Lewis Hamilton is older than him and has seven championships to show for his name. And since teams usually prefer young drivers, in any case in future, when dynamics change, he’ll have to move plenty of wheels.
Moreover, the current contracts of these drivers run long, except for Sergio Perez, who’s expected to sign an extension soon. Otherwise, the earlies one expiring is of George Russell’s in 2023, and by then chances of return of an ageing Grosjean would deteriorate further.
