Kevin Magnussen reveals that he did not feel any pity for the Haas F1 team during their woe in 2021.

The 2021 season was a tragedy for the Haas F1 team, as both their drivers, Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin failed to score even a single point during the entire season and Haas finished last with 0 points. Both the drivers were regular backmarkers during all the races, and Nikita Mazepin was known for spinning and crashing in every other race.

Haas spent the past two years collecting data and developing their car for the 2022 season. Just before the season started, the only sponsor for the team, Uralkali were let go and so was Nikita Mazepin, which essentially made them bring back Kevin Magnussen, their ex-driver.

Haas drove with Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen till 2020, until Romain retired and Kevin Magnussen had to leave to bring in Nikita, bringing the team an essential sponsor.

Since Kevin Magnussen’s return, Haas have proved their way of recovery and have managed to score 15 points till now, all of them scored by Magnussen. This has been a major sign of improvement for Haas, and it can be seen that they worked really hard on the development of their car, since it has climbed all the way from scoring no points till being a mid-field competitive car.

Upon being asked about the 2021 season, Magnussen said that the team took the right approach which time has proven. “I think they made the right choice because they fell behind in ’19 and ’20 and then went all out to jumpstart this project. So that was part of the reason why I was so excited to come back when I got the chance because I knew all the focus had gone towards this car,” said Magnussen.

ESPN asked Magnussen if he thinks he could have done better than Nikita Mazepin in the 2021 season, to which he replied; “I didn’t really think of it like that. I didn’t feel any pity. Is that the right word? Yeah. None of those thoughts. When I was out, I didn’t really look back. I was too busy having fun and living life.”

He stated that many things change when one becomes a father, there are many more responsibilities that exist, and one tends to focus on life outside of Formula 1.

As of now, this season is looking promising for both Haas and Magnussen, as Haas has been performing their best since the past two seasons, standing 7th in the constructors’ with 15 points.
