Sergio Perez had a dramatic spin during the closing stages of the Q3 session qualifying, and after his exploits, has explained why he was not able to keep his RB18 on the track.

Sergio Perez has blamed his eagerness to get on the throttle as the main reason behind his untimely spin that cost him a potential top 5 starting slot for the upcoming Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver was on a fast lap when he drove over the gravel on the penultimate corner of the track and brought his and the rest of the other car’s session to an abrupt end.

Moreover, before the incident took place, Lewis Hamilton was looking all-set for a front-row starting position but all of the Brit’s efforts ended up in vain as the yellow flags didn’t allow him to complete his lap.

Perez while dwelling over his Q3 spin said, “It was a shame, I was on a good lap and as I was picking up the throttle, I went quite aggressive, kissed the gravel, and just lost the rear end, unfortunately.”

It was a good three-tenths [of a second up] on my previous time so I could have got another tenth, tenth-and-a-half which would have put me P4, P3 maybe.”

It is what it is and tomorrow, hopefully, I am able to have a strong start and just go with the lead early on and be in the fight for the race.”

The Mexican, ever since landing in Zandvoort has found it difficult to match the pace of Max Verstappen and has proved second best in all the sessions that have taken place so far.

Moreover, Perez is aware of how far he has been off the pace of his teammate, and while discussing his somewhat improved qualifying said, “It hasn’t come that easy, we have been chasing it quite a bit this weekend.

It has been a harder weekend for us than it was in Belgium so we will try our best tomorrow to make sure we are able to maximize everything.”

Sergio Perez is determined to put up a solid performance during the Dutch Grand Prix, and considering that he is starting the race from the third row, the 32-year-old will have a chance of making up a few places at the start of the race, because once the race settles down, it would become incredibly tough to overtake on the twisty Zandvoort circuit.
