“I will consider other options” : Haas Driver Nikita Mazepin on possibility of Dakar Rally entry

Haas driver Nikita Mazepin

While all the fans of Formula 1 have been hailing the amazing performance of the Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, there is one thing that people want answers to. Nikita Mazepin, who started out in Formula 1 in 2021 as a recruit for Guenther Steiner’s team, was released from his contract early this year amid the Ukraine-Russia war. Haas also severed all relations with their sponsor Uralkali.

As Nikita Mazepin exited Haas, the racer could not find another seat for himself in 2022. His high-profile contract termination made way for the the return of Kevin Magnussen, former Haas driver, who never believed he would be back to racing in Formula 1. While things have gone really well for Magnussen who entered into a multi-year contract with Haas again, Mazepin is not having the best time right now.

Nikita Mazepin’s debut year in Formula 1 was filled with abysmal performances in his Haas car which lacked speed and reliability. The Russian 23-year-old could not score a single point in the entire season after participating in 22 races in the entire 2021 F1 Calendar. And now that Kevin Magnussen is here, he has already scored 12 points in the first two races of the new season, bringing Haas their 5th top 5 finish in the history of the team. So, Haas fans are not missing Mazepin and everyone has supported Haas’ decision to bring back Magnussen. Now, what will happen to Mazepin’s career in F1?

When the initial testing for the 2022 season was underway, Nikita Mazepin still thought he would be accompanying teammate Mick Schumacher for Haas in the new season. But, luck had different things in store for him. As the Russians waged war on Ukraine, companies all around the world started severing connections with Russia, and Haas, too, parted ways with Uralkali and Mazepin.

On being asked about his probably steps in his future, Nikita Mazepin did not sound too hopeful. “My career is suspended for a while now,” said Nikita Mazepin in his recent interview with Formulapassion.it.

But I have been involved in motorsport for eighteen years and I have no intention of leaving it. I will stay fit and I hope to return to Formula 1. If it doesn’t work out, I will consider other options.” Among other options, he is considering the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia too.
