“I’m over the moon,” George Russell ecstatic to secure the first pole of his career at the Hungarian GP

George Russell took the pole position in the Hungarian Grand Prix ahead of the Ferrari and Red Bull. Russell took an unexpected strike for the top after almost getting knocked out of Q2. It is his first career pole after getting close to it a few times previously. George Russell aced all the sectors without even getting purple in any of the three, he managed a 1:17:377 on his final run for Q3. It is also the first pole for Mercedes in the 2022 season, after having to suffer quite a lot with the qualifying pace.

George Russell has always been recognised as Mr Saturday for his incredible record of beating his teammate in qualifying. Though this season has been tough for the Mercedes team, George is still very much on the level of the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. With all hopes to fight for the maximum points on Sunday, it will be very tough for the pole sitter to keep both the Ferraris behind with a faster car. However, a chance for a wet race could still change the whole scenario on Sunday. The 24-year-old is an amazing driver on wets and he has proved his valuable skill with a podium in a Williams last time around. George also scored his first ever career points on the same track in 2021.

Russell came close to P1 quite a few times but only managed a P2 every time. Twice in Williams, Russell shocked the whole grid in 2021 with both of them coming on a wet qualifying. Sakhir 2020 also was a shame for the Mercedes Driver when he got a chance to back Lewis Hamilton after the 37-year-old suffered from covid. However, he lost out to Valtteri Bottas. But Hungary 2022 ended as an unbelievable dream for George Russell.
