The Italian Grand Prix which was held last week saw a massive turnout thanks to the Tifosis who came to support their Ferrari stars Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. In the wake of the race in Monza, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali recently commented on the two existing Grands Prix which take place in Italy–one in Imola and another in Monza. Domenicali mentioned the possibility of yearly rotating the two tracks in the F1 calendar so that there is only one Italian GP and more circuits from different countries can make it into the calendar that way.
In light of the Domenicali’s comments and Formula 1’s motive about the Italian GPs, the mayors of the two provinces–Imola and Monza–came together to join hands to secure their place in the future F1 calendars. This partnership between them allows a possibility for significant reduction in costs, providing greater scope to both the racetracks. The circuits will need several interventions for their modernization, and this newfound friendship allows for better functioning as well.
The Italian Government has also stepped in to aid in this development. F1ingenerale mentioned that the government officials consider Monza’s redevelopment to be instrumental in saving the hurricane-torn park. Similarly, Imola could continue to help Emilia Romagna recover from the damage of last May’s flood. Several Italian personnel have pointed out the tourist value and their interest in rebuilding these circuit. Their plan surely is to bag a deal with as many Italian Circuits on the calendar as possible.
