Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport. 20 of the best drivers go head-to-head to win the F1 world championship every year. However, there are many who don’t get the right chance to make it into F1. IndyCar star and McLaren reserve driver Pato O’Ward has reaffirmed that he still wants to race in Formula 1.

The Mexican driver was previously part of the Red Bull junior program. However, the Austrian team ended its ties with O’Ward in 2020 despite him winning the Indy Lights championship. The 24-year-old then sought refuge at Arrow McLaren SP. Presently, Pato O’Ward competes in IndyCar with McLaren alongside an F1 reserve role at Woking.

Despite struggling to achieve the super license points to race in F1, the 24-year-old is determined to make it to the pinnacle of motorsport. So much so, that the Mexican driver would be willing to leave McLaren in a bid to pursue his F1 ambitions. Pato O’Ward recently mentioned that his dream of making it to Formula 1 will stay alive till his deathbed.

I would love to be in Formula 1 because I know I’d be able to do what I’m doing in IndyCar. I know I’m more than capable to do it and Formula 1 [even though] it’s another series in another race car, I’ve always been confident in my abilities.

However, till then, the Mexican driver might need to wait until a door can open for him at the pinnacle of motorsport in the foreseeable future.
