“It is wrong,” Sebastian Vettel rejects the proposal of a salary cap on F1 drivers

Sebastian Vettel is one of the most generous people on the grid, also the one who comes up with the nicest solutions. The 4 time World Champion also shared his views about the salary cap for drivers which is in speculation.

2022 is the second season in F1 with a budget cap in place for the teams to spend on their cars. The allowed budget is $140 million, no upgrades (in total) should exceed this limit. Many teams including Red Bull are against this budget cap as it limits their performance. Horner also stated that around 7 teams would not be able to take part in the final race of this year’s season.

Similarly, a salary cap for the drivers has been in speculation. Sebastian Vettel however, said that it would be a bad idea to implement such a thing for the teams and the drivers.

“It is wrong to have a salary cap,” GPfans quoted Vettel. “It is interesting, if you follow up where it is coming from, this proposal.”

“Obviously, we have a budget cap now which pushes the model towards earnings for all the teams. Yeah, maybe they should be capped and have fixed earnings.”

“Everything beyond that should go to a certain pool to do great things with it and have a positive impact.”

“As a suggestion, I can imagine as a response… the topic will disappear.”

Sebastian Vettel guarantees that a salary gap wouldn’t affect the drivers’ will to race, for sure.

F1 drivers are passionate about driving, and once they are on the track, they see nothing else but the perfection, which would be the reason why they are so highly focussed, and it is for the same reason, that even IF a salary cap exists, it won’t affect the desire for the drivers to race.

Sebastian Vettel currently stands 14th in the championship with 13 points that he scored in his Aston Martin this year. Aston Martin themselves stand equally with Haas with 15 points and stand 9th in the constructor’s championship.
