“It looks more like a bullseye,” Kevin Magnussen ‘extremely pleased’ with upgraded VF-22
Kevin Magnussen
Kevin Magnussen’s VF-22 was the only Haas that was running the upgraded package in Hungary and despite finishing P16, he believes that the team has done a mega job with the upgrade.
Before Hungary, Haas was the only team who had not brought any updates on his car but despite the lack of improvements, they were able to challenge for points every now and then and achieved back-to-back point finishes with both its car in Britain and Austria. The last time this happened was way back in 2018.
Kevin Magnussen was asked to run the upgraded Haas ahead of Mick Schumacher in Budapest, however, there was not a whole lot of difference between the two drivers.
The Danish driver started the race from P13 whereas Schumacher from P15 but at the end of the event, the young German was able to land his VF-22 ahead of Magnussen as he finished P14 and the latter in P16.
However, Magnussen’s race took a big blow when he was shown the black and orange flag for contact with McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo and was asked to go into the pits for repairs, the team itself after the race made it clear that there was minimal front wing damage.

Kevin Magnussen’s take on the new Haas upgrades
Magnussen is quite pleased with the upgraded car that he ran in Budapest and has said, “It’s good that we are upgrading and working the way we are and it doesn’t look like a failure. It looks more like a bullseye.”
“We’ve taken what we could from the weekend in terms of data and testing and I think we saw some positive things.”
“We need to give it a bit more time so we can get some more performance out of it, but at least we brought an upgrade that does what we expected. We know the potential is there.”
Moreover, the Haas starlet feels the upgrade has not taken the team backward and is hopeful that he would be able to make huge strides after the end of the summer break.
Haas has performed better than the outside expectations this season and after 13 rounds, is on 34 points and has got a firm grip over P7 in the Constructors Championship.
Magnussen has further added, “At least it doesn’t look like we’ve taken a step backward with it, my car seems a little bit better and that’s positive.”
“From a driver’s point of view it’s not easy when it’s like this and the wet practice didn’t help either, It just complicates your life.”
The 29-year-old feels that he could have done without the wet conditions in Hungary as it made it a bit complicated for him and the team to gather valuable data.
Haas has done a brilliant job during 2022 but will they be able to continue with the positive progression when the season resumes on the 26th of August?
