“It was pretty tense,” Mark Webber assessed Sebastian Vettel as his Red Bull teammate

Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were Red Bull teammates from 2009-2013. In the five seasons of driving together, they won four of them. Mark Webber lost to Sebastian Vettel in all of them but he challenged the four-time world champion quite accurately. Both the teammates were evenly matched which also lead to a lot of controversial moments for both the drivers.

Sebastian Vettel no doubt was better than Mark Webber on several occasions. With the German giving out the two most dominant seasons that no one could have matched, his teammate did manage to beat him once in a while. Malaysia 2013 was one of those heated moments, with Mark and Sebastian fighting for the win. Sebastian was ordered by his team to swap the lead with Mark but he decided not to do it and took matters into his own hand. This led to a disrupted incident in the cool-down room.

Anyhow, Mark Webber and Sebastian are on good terms as of now, “We’re fine now. It was obviously pretty tense when you’re fighting for championships at the front together,” Webber recalled.

Mark after all the fights still appreciates and watches Sebastian’s career as complete. With the German now retiring, Mark thinks that’s the right decision for him to now take a rest from the sport.

“It always gets a bit strained – it’s easier to be teammates when you’re fighting for points but obviously, championships and wins is a bit more challenging,” Mark Webber said.

Sebastian Vettel after driving for 15 years will be leaving Formula 1 at the end of the season. He is arguably one of the best drivers the sport has seen. With 53 race wins and 58 pole positions, the driver is a four-time world champion.
