Valtteri Bottas quipped that the chaotic pre-race downpours at the Monaco Grand Prix was “sorted by Netflix.” The video service was chastised by several F1 drivers for being too liberal with the reality in its ‘Drive to Survive’ series.

This year’s official launch, in specific, which enclosed the exhilarating championship race between reigning F1 World Champion Max Verstappen and 7-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, generated negative publicity.

When Netflix looks back on this year’s race around the principality, such extra spice will be unnecessary. When asked how challenging it was to respond to different situations at the last minute, Bottas laughed: “I couldn’t believe that once we were coming back from the national anthem, it started raining – nice timing.”

“Maybe it was sorted by Netflix or something!,” commented the Finnish driver in reference to the dramatic rain showers that ensued throughout the Monaco Grand Prix weekend. ‘Drive to Survive’ is known to be fictionalizing segments of Formula One.

Bottas’ Monaco weekend began with an MGU-K malfunction on his first lap in practice, limiting his slightly earlier track time. This resulted in the Finn qualifying 12th, but he recovered to finish ninth in the race and score 2 points for Alfa Romeo.

“It was difficult and definitely felt like a long day. When they stop the race twice it is not nice but it is what it is, the same for everyone. We just needed to keep the focus because on this track, if you lose the focus for one second then it is game over,” added Bottas.
