Esteban and Pierre
Esteban Ocon, the Alpine starlet, has recently talked about the kind of relationship he shares with soon-to-be teammate Pierre Gasly.
Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly are going to join forces at Alpine next year, and the former has indicated that their history together will make for an awesome story to be told to future generations.
Ocon in a recent in-detail interview was asked whether the duo would be able to co-exist next year, considering their history, and while responding to the query, Ocon said, “Yeah, we will do. And to be honest, I think it’s an awesome story to tell.”
“I mean, we started go-karting together – that’s pretty crazy. I have a lot of fantastic memories obviously with Pierre when we were kids.”

“But I think it would be great to collaborate together. It’s not only myself now from Normandy, we are all three from Normandy, me, Pierre, and the brand.”
“So if we can bring that team to the top and make Normandy win, that would be something special.”

While Esteban Ocon is extremely pleased with having Pierre as his teammate for 2023, he has admitted that the rivalry within the team always stays and while stressing about the same, Ocon added, “It’s the same rivalry that you have with any team-mate because there’s no French championship, there is no French/Spanish championship, so all good.”
The 25-year-old is determined to give Gasly a tough fight in 2023 and believes that it would be the same from his teammate’s end as well.
Ocon has been with Alpine(Renault) since 2020, however, despite this fact, he has turned down the suggestion of having an upper hand over Gasly when he joins in 2023.
While stressing about it, Ocon further adds, “It’s not something that I really focus on too much.”
“The important thing for me is to keep the job I’m doing, the development, the new floor that we brought in Singapore, I’m also the leader of that coming.”
“Fernando also gives his thoughts, I give my thoughts, and it’s the work together that we bring that makes the important thing.”
“For sure I will have the most experience, I know how the car works. But it is important for the team to get Pierre up to speed very quickly.”

Esteban has indicated that it would be up to Alpine to get Pierre up to speed on how things are done on the Enstone-based team, and considering that his fellow Countrymen would be getting out of the Red Bull umbrella for the first time next year, it will be fascinating to see how Gasly would fare against the more experienced Ocon.
