“I’ve always rated him”: George Russell pleased to see how the ‘stars aligned’ for Nyck de Vries

George Russell took over a Mercedes seat after serving Williams for the last few seasons. Fans all around the world understood it to be more than deserved considering the talent Russell possibly has. Since junior racing, Russell did excel in all of the competitions. George was accompanied by his friends now and then with one of them being Nyck De Vries.

Nyck De Vries got his chance in F1 after an emergency operation Alex Albon received a few weeks ago. De Vries has been in talks with Mercedes for a long time and also was involved with them being their reserve driver for F1 and Formula E main driver. But getting a chance in F1, no matter how talented you are is still a very difficult job. But anyhow, Nyck did prove himself by scoring his first F1 points in his very first race that too in a Williams.

George seeing the acknowledgement Nyck received calls it to be deserving. “Between myself, Alex, Max [Verstappen], Charles [Leclerc] and Nyck, who were in that period racing against each other in ’11 and ’12, as I said, Nyck was the only one who didn’t make it, so happy to see him there, said Russell.

George knew Nyck since the karting days as the friends fought around the track when they got a chance in a car. As they grew up everyone got more and more chances as per their performance with Charles, George and Nyck winning the F2 championship. Nyck didn’t really have his chance until Monza but turned it out fully as he got a chance.

“I’ve not rated him. I think to get to F1, you need to do the job at the right time when there is an opportunity on the grid, and sometimes those stars don’t align,” said Russell.

“But with the number of stars that aligned in Monza it probably made up for the unfortunateness of a few years ago,” concluded Russell.

George currently is driving for a top team besides a seven-time world champion with Nyck planning to drive for a decent deep midfield team. But the friends could end up being a duo in the future with a perfect chance.
