Jacques Villeneuve the former Canadian Motorsports driver has recently come up with a financial penalty that FIA can impose on teams who go over the set budget cap for the 2022 F1 season.

Jacques Villeneuve feels that teams can be discouraged from crossing the budget ceiling by imposing a 1 million penalty that they would be forced to pay to the FIA and also to all the other teams. Big teams like Red Bull, Mercedes, and, Ferrari have been doing everything in their power to get FIA to increase the budget cap because of the rising inflation.

At the moment, FIA has not given anything solid regarding what kind of punishment will come the way of teams if they cross the ceiling. However, the first financial penalty of the season came the way of the Williams team when they were asked to pay a hefty amount of $25000 for breaching the financial regulations.

The fine was imposed because of an administrative offense and not for breaching the budget cap.

The Canadian driver Villeneuve has a wealth of experience when it comes to motorsports racing and knows how teams can try different ways to increase the budget cap.

While talking about the budget ceiling, Villeneuve said, “It’s as if they decided from the start that they would go past it anyway.”

“Also because there’s no clear penalty. It could be a financial penalty, then who cares? It could be a few points, but it could also be exclusion from the championship.”

Getting excluded from the Championship is something that is extremely far-fetched even for Villeneuve who feels that if any team crosses the ceiling this season, FIA should take into account the excess margin and then impose a penalty.
