“We are always open to the sport growing,” Williams F1 team principal shows his support towards Andretti
James Vowles
Two names that have been constantly in the news for the past two days are Andretti and James Vowles. The former has garnered quite the buzz around after they announced their intentions to enter F1 with Cadillac. Meanwhile, James Vowles shocked the paddock when he was announced as Williams Racing’s new team principal for the 2023 season.
In recent times, Michael Andretti showed his displeasure towards the F1 teams as a majority of them were not ready to have an 11th team on the grid. The main issue that this would cause for the teams is another competitor joining the profit-sharing group leading to lesser profits for all the teams. Only McLaren and Alpine were ready to have another team join the sport.
When it came to Toto Wolff and the newly appointed Williams Team Principal, both had a neutral and non-threatening opinion towards the aspiring F1 team. James Vowles went on to talk about his thoughts regarding the Andretti Cadillac F1 team possibly joining the sport as the 11th team. Vowles has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders having joined Williams as their new boss.

In an interview with Racer, here is what he had to say. “We are always open to the sport growing,” Vowles said. “The truth behind it is financially the sport is becoming more and more successful. Whoever joins in that environment, needs to bring with it the growth that is required for everyone else to be in a better position, or at least a neutral position,” he continued.
“There is a lot of lovely things about Andretti and about Cadillac, it just needs to have good understanding of how it will grow the sport, in what way, and what the growth will be,” he concluded.
The 2023 F1 season will commence in a few months. However, Andretti is bidding to join the sport in 2026 when the new rules and regulations come into place. These rules will make it easier for new teams to join the sport. Although it now seems like other teams aren’t very supportive of that decision as of today. On the other hand., it will be interesting to see Williams team principal James Vowles tackle the upcoming season.
