Ferrari has been performing for the past two seasons despite the stability issues within the team. Mattia Binotto‘s exit and Fred Vasseur‘s entry has been fruitful for Maranello. The Italian Constructor scored a one-two finish at the Australian GP despite Red Bull’s highly dominant campaign. As such, it seems that Vasseur’s plans have been beneficial for the Scuderia.

Fred Vasseur‘s entry enabled Ferrari to score two wins under Red Bull’s dominant performance during these previous seasons. However, Maranello’s issues regarding strategy and pit stops were still evident during the 2023 season. Regardless, the former Ferrari driver Jean Alesi mentioned how he was present during the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian GPs. Alesi asserted that he saw a ‘better general organization’ in Ferrari.

I was in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia for the first two races of the championship and I saw a team more on the piece up close, with a better general organization
Alesi told La Stampa.

Additionally, Alesi claimed that the reason behind Maranello’s improving performance was that there was no one blaming others for everything. This end to the blame culture at the team was a major win for Vasseur As a result, Fred Vasseur was the exemplary first in the Italian constructor according to the ex-F1 driver. Hence, Ferrari has been constantly proving to be a threat to Red Bull’s domination.

In the Scuderia there is no longer anyone who blames others, Fred was exemplary first of all in creating a group. Red Bull remains the reference, but different perspectives open up. The detachment has largely decreased and pressure can be put on Red Bull forcing it to take risks at the expense of reliability.
Alesi mentioned.

Fred Vasseur claimed Ferrari made a ‘huge step’ in tire wear consistency

The 2023 season was a mixed bag for the Scuderia with a car far behind Red Bull. On the contrary, Maranello was off to a great start in the 2024 season. The team has been scoring major points ever since the season opener. Hence, Vasseur mentioned that the team made a huge step forward. Additionally, Ferrari was great on the one-lap pace according to the team principal.

We made a huge step forward, Perhaps on the pace of one lap, it's true that we were not nowhere last year on one-lap pace.
Vasseur said, as reported by motorsport.com.

Additionally, Ferrari took a huge step in terms of tire wear consistency compared to last season. Moreover, the SF-24 was much easier to drive for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz according to Fred Vasseur. Hence, the 2024 season could be a good year for the Italian team after the dominant result in Melbourne.

But where we made a huge step I think it's more on the consistency between the two compounds. Between one stint and the other one, the car is much easier to drive.
Vasseur noted.

Ferrari seem to providing a great challenge to the highly-dominant Red Bulls. Despite Milton Keynes’ dominant performance, the Scuderia could match Milton Keynes in the coming races. Hence, Maranello might have a shot at the championship contention if they perform similarly down the season. However, time will tell about how the Italian team performs down the season by minimizing mistakes.
