Jost Capito reveals Williams is aware why they are ‘plumb last’ in the Constructors Championship
Jost Capito
Jost Capito the Williams team Principal has stated that with the dawn of new regulations in the sport and the arrival of Alex Albon, the team hoped to be a bit higher in the Constructors, but unfortunately that hasn’t happened.
Williams after 13 rounds of the 2022 F1 season has just got 3 points on the board and is plumb last in the standings. Moreover, Jost Capito has also admitted that it is too low for the targets they set this season.
In 2021, Williams finished 9th in the standings ahead of the Haas Formula One team but this season they have made huge strides in the right direction and are currently in 7th position whereas the Wantage-based team has got Aston Martin ahead of it in the standings sitting on 20 points.
Alex Albon has brought 3 points for Williams this season and their other driver, Nicholas Latifi is yet to open his account. While stressing over the situation Capito has said, “If we would have achieved our expectations, when we do that simulation, we would be in the upper midfield.”
“And so it seems the objectives were right. We just didn’t have the processes yet in place to achieve these objectives, but we believe we know why we didn’t achieve them.”
Jost Capito : Williams is doing some restructuring to become more efficient
There are only 9 races left in the 2022 F1 season and given the situation of the Williams team, it seems they have started focusing on the internal working of the team so that they can improve for the future.
Capito has further added, “And we’re doing steps now, for example establishing a proper project management system that was not in place before, getting more disciplined in the whole development process, and doing some restructuring to become more efficient.“
Williams has got one seat under wraps for 2023 with Alex Albon whereas the other seat is still wide open. Nicholas Latifi has massively underperformed this season and it is believed that he is going to lose his seat, the name that has come up most often to replace him is that of Nyck De Vries.
The second half of the current season is starting on the 26th of August and the remaining races are going to provide the team with a good opportunity to test out whether the restructuring within the team is bearing fruits or not.
