Juan Manuel Correa, the F2 driver, has opened up on the FIA’s treatment following his horrific crash in 2019 at Spa-Francorchamps. Correa was involved in a terrible accident with Anthoine Hubert. Hubert succumbed to his injuries. It was an immense loss for the sport. On the other hand, Correa suffered from leg and spine injuries. The 23-year-old spent two weeks in an induced coma.
Correa wore a leg brace for more than a year. He had to undergo several surgeries to avoid leg amputation. The 2019 crash was an unfortunate one. However, Correa returned to F3 in 2021. It was not long after that he was offered a Formula 2 seat. The Van Amersfoort Racing driver made a guest appearance on the Tracks Limits podcast recently.
The American Ecuadorian was questioned about the FIA’s reaction to his accident. Correa stated, “There was no support for me at all from the FIA. I felt used. You give them a good show and they benefit from it, but you get nothing back from them. That was pretty bad, to be honest.” The F2 driver does not think the FIA sympathizes with him.

It is not the first time Correa has called out the FIA on this subject. Previously he had stated to NTV that the FIA did not support him when his life was at risk. “Everyone went to Monza the next day after the accident, I stayed in the hospital and I almost died four days after the accident. And there was nobody in the FIA or someone who looked after me.”
While Juan Manuel Correa has been open about his feelings, the FIA Chief Medical Officer discarded his claims. He stated that the on-site doctors saved his life. Dr Christian Wahlen added that the FIA had kept Correa’s family updated while the driver was hospitalized. The 23-year-old is a survivor. Apart from all this, he is fully focused on his Formula 2 season.
Correa looks forward to his maiden win in the 2023 F2 season. It has not been a bad start for the Van Amersfoort Racing driver. He finished tenth at the Bahrain International Circuit. The horrifying accident in 2019 did not stop him in his tracks, Correa aims to get into Formula 1. The driver is working hard to fulfill his dreams.
