“Can’t wait to get there,” Mick Schumacher eager to get started in Montreal
Mick Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen
Haas looked strong when starting the season. In the first 4 races of the season, they scored points in 3 of them. However, this has now given way to disappointments in recent weeks. Moreover, Mick Schumacher is yet to get himself into the mix, with all of their 15 points behind scored by Kevin Magnussen.
Haas have had 4 retirements in the last 4 races. Kevin Magnussen has retired thrice, one due to a collision and the others, in Monaco and Azerbaijan, due to mechanical problems. His teammate, Mick, also retired once, in Monaco, where he crashed heavily into the wall at turn 15, splitting his car in two.
Haas have not brought upgrades to the fore yet, choosing to bide their time. This, for the moment, is surely not helping their cause, because other teams are in fact, bringing upgrades. However, it’s possible that their choice to think of the long run may pay off in the end. However, there are still a few races to go before that.
Mick Schumacher: “I can’t wait to go there”
After 3 years, Canada is making its return to the Formula 1 calendar. Having made his debut in 2020, it will be Mick Schumacher‘s first time at the event. But he has childhood memories of the track, having visited with his father.
“I have been to Montreal maybe once or twice as a child, at the age of 11 or 12. I remember it was fun to visit it because it was so different from all the other tracks. There were marmots running around, it was a lot of fun!“
Schumacher was excited to return to the track, this time as a racing driver. “It has all the characteristics of a city track, but it is a permanent track. I think it’s quite unique: it’s mostly surrounded by water, [and] the only place that comes close is Melbourne. I haven’t driven it yet, but I tried it on the simulator, I can’t wait to go there.”
“In the past, there have been a lot of crazy races, I’m sure this year will be interesting too.”
Kevin Magnussen had a similar outlook on the race in Montreal, and was himself excited to return to the track.
“Montreal is a great place, absolutely. It’s also a nice track, quite unique, it’s a hybrid street circuit: I really like it.”
He added that the goal for Haas was to get themselves into the points places once again, after a string of disappointing weekends. “The goal is to score points, that’s for sure. I think we have the car to do it and I can’t wait to get back into the top 10.”
There is certainly pressure on Haas for better performance in Canada. Certainly, they would want more points. Mick Schumacher may also have additional pressure on him, owing to the rumors of Antonio Giovinazzi perhaps replacing him at Haas.
