It has been weeks since the bombshell announcement of Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari from the 2025 season was dropped. Recently, vice-chairman of the Scuderia, Piero Ferrari, had claimed that the Briton had visited Maranello ahead of its move to the team. However, the seven-time champion has reacted to his claims in a recent interview.
The 78-year-old claimed the Englishman visited Mercedes’s arch-rivals at their factory. This had raised questions of integrity and loyalty against the Briton in the paddock. Thus, Hamilton in an interview dismissed such claims of him paying a visit to Maranello while under contract with the Silver Arrows.
The 78-year-old had claimed that Hamilton visited the factory, and gave his side of the story as reported by express.co.uk:
Perhaps not everyone knows that Lewis[Hamilton] has always been sensitive to the fascination of the Prancing Horse. He’s a customer of ours! He has visited the factory more than once.
However, Hamilton refuted such claims and stated:
I have not. I bought my first Ferrari in 2010, I think. That was my first present to myself. I don’t have it anymore, but I didn’t get to go during that time. Being with Mercedes, I didn’t think it was a good look to go.
The 39-year-old explained that he purchased his first Ferrari in 2010 for himself. Still, he didn’t visit the factory in Italy as it would not have been a good gesture towards the German team. On the contrary, the vice-chairman claimed that when he ordered a LaFerrari, he visited Maranello to provide special instructions for his car to be made. This saga has now calmed down nonetheless and the Briton would be seen repping the red outfit next year
What are Lewis Hamilton’s views on his last F1 car with Mercedes?
Hamilton prepares for his last dance with the team whom he had won 6 titles with. The Briton and the team want to end this pairing on a high note. Furthermore, the seven-time champion would be looking to end the drought of wins with this year’s W15.
It felt much more enjoyable to drive. We still have time to find. Red Bull clearly are out in the distance.Lewis Hamilton said as reported by bbc.com
The Englishman felt more comfortable driving the car while testing. Subsequently, he also mentioned that the team still have a gap to the dominating Red Bulls, but he is much more confident in the car.
On the other side, Hamilton was seen struggling on the first day of testing when he had twitches of oversteer. The team later worked on the car and solved the issue, which helped the Briton get into a rhythm. The former champions now prepare for the season-opener in Bahrain and would be looking to make the most out of the weekend.
