F1 owner’s most valuable sports empire looking to expand with $2 billion worth acquisition

F1 owner Liberty Media has been actively working towards increasing the popularity of the sport worldwide. The inaugural Las Vegas GP was a huge success and propelled the sport’s popularity in the American continent. Hence, recently, Liberty Media has been actively attempting to acquire the rights of MotoGP as well.

Dorna Sports has been the sole commercial rights holder of the motorcycling sport MotoGP ever since 1991. Hence, Liberty Media now reportedly aims to expand its domain by moving over to acquiring the two-wheeler category of racing in sports. Notably, F1’s owner Liberty Media was recently termed the ‘Most Valuable Sports Empire’ by Forbes. Liberty Media is also currently in talks with Bridgepoint to acquire Dorna.

Dorna’s CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta shared his opinions over the previous rumors of Dorna being sold to Liberty Media. Ezpeleta mentioned that the rumors were true but the banks were not ready to purchase the commercial rights. However, the 78-year-old asserted that they were ready to sell the commercial rights after a long stint of 25 years.

I confirm the rumours of sale. But the banks do not want to buy, they only offer themselves as intermediaries of the operation. I can only say that we are ready: we stayed with our first investors from 1998 to 2006: 8 years Then came Bridgepoint, which made some changes and 17 more went through.

Liberty Media actively working towards new milestones with Formula 1

Liberty Media has been actively involved in making Formula 1 a grand success worldwide. The company recently increased American involvement in the sport to propel F1’s success. The inaugural Las Vegas GP saw an attendance of 315000 people over the race weekend. Additionally, the race weekend reportedly had a $1.2 Billion economic impact on the location.

Apart from this, Liberty Media aims to expand F1’s horizons and include more and more partnerships within the sport. The company focused on more involvement of younger audiences for the sport. Hence, now the sport is growing in popularity more than ever and gaining traction from all parts of the world.

The 2024 season of Formula 1 would be highly exciting for all the fans and drivers alike. The entire season would showcase how well Red Bull developed the RB20 chassis.
