‘Made it very clear for me that I should go there’: Pierre Gasly reveals what convinced him to join Alpine
Pierre Gasly
Pierre Gasly is all set to make his way into the Alpine camp, leaving Red Bull and the sister team after serving them for nine long years. Gasly is certainly very excited about the prospect. Of course, the ideal situation would be a seat at Red Bull, but that did not seem to be working out. Ultimately the decision to make himself comfortable in a French team turned out to be very natural.
Gasly was going to be rather stuck at Red Bull. After Sergio Perez’s contract was extended to 2024, there was not much hope, but there were also not many other opportunities. He would definitely have left AlphaTauri for a better option but there did not seem to be any until Fernando Alonso announced his surprise move to Aston Martin. Gasly was impressed by the team’s progress, and the career path shown.
As per Motorsport.com, the Frenchman said: “Just based on where I am in my career, based on Alpine’s ambition, based on their progress over the last few years. Just getting better and better every season, they have this strategy to be fighting at the front over the next 100 grand Prix, and they are just going in the right direction.”

Pierre was set to continue with AlphaTauri for 2023. This move and opportunity came out of the blue when everything got shuffled by Sebastian Vettel’s retirement announcement. Gasly only prioritised one thing, the intent Alpine had to bring Gasly to their team. Which was marked by Pierre as the difficult talks between the teams came out to be successful.
Gasly explained that Alpine were incredibly intent on getting him into the team: “That was definitely one of the most important, let’s say, criteria for me, which made it very clear for me that I should go there, is how strong their will was to get me out of Red Bull and to get me in that car.”
He further said that it was clear Alpine really believed in the project: “They made it very clear straight away they had to work very hard in terms of negotiations, it was not an easy deal to make between all parties involved. And it just felt like straight away they really pushed so hard to get me, and they really believe in that project.”
Alpine right now is busy with their fight with McLaren for the fourth position in the championship. Fernando Alonso bids his farewell and makes the way for Pierre Gasly to have a seat beside Esteban Ocon making Alpine an all-French team. The two have had their troubles in the past, and it’ll be interesting to see how things transpire between them as teammates.
