The Formula 1 silly season was a shocker to fans and the two main pieces of news that affected them the most was the announcement of Vettel‘s retirement and Daniel Ricciardo’s reel in which he told the fans that he is relinquishing his seat with McLaren for 2023 despite his contract saying otherwise.

Ricciardo has been performing poorly since the start of the season, having scored only 19 points till now and suffering a mechanical failure in the Italian Grand Prix causing him to retire early from the race. His future in F1 seems unclear, with most of the teams announcing their drivers for their next season, there are very few seats left for Ricciardo to lay his claim on before the season ends.

The F1 silly season saw a lot of absurd things happen especially with Oscar Piastri rejecting his claim to Alpine’s second seat and replacing Ricciardo at McLaren next season. This has caused speculation among the fans as to whether the 33-year-old Australian driver will be occupying the seat in place of Piastri.

However, when asked about his future Ricciardo said, “Maybe the best thing I can do is wait a year until 2024. That sounds strange, but in the end it might make the most sense. My management has good contacts in the paddock. In a triple header, I have to focus on the races. Maybe I will get more clarity in a few weeks without a race.”

Currently, Ricciardo’s future in F1 is still uncertain but many fans and drivers on the grid hope to see him in a seat next season and possibly race in front of the grid.
