“Maybe we’ll copy something from them” : Christian Horner takes a dig at Aston Martin after its new wing reveal
Aston Martin AMR22's new wing update
A redesigned rear wing that matched last season’s wings more precisely than the 2022 versions was observed mounted to the rear of the Aston Martin car prior to the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix. F1 journalist Ted Kravitz called attention to the curve at the finish, which appeared to be meant to intercept the wind more and increase the car’s downforce. For the Silverstone-based team, the wing might be “game-changing,” according to Kravitz.
Understandably, rival teams in the grid have taken notice of the revised rear wing, and it wouldn’t be the first occasion Aston Martin has been accused of breaking the rules. They debuted a modified car before the Spanish Grand Prix that was eerily identical to Red Bull’s, but the FIA determined that it was lawful despite warnings of an inquiry from Christian Horner and Helmut Marko.
Christian Horner vocalizes copying issues
“Look at this rear wing end plate. Now this potentially I think is game-changing. So remember when they changed the rules this year, they mandated that they have these curvy, like a melted Wham bar rear wings that allow loads of air to spin out over and make these cars easier to follow each other and actually race. Now Aston Martin have turned up here this morning with a different interpretation of the rear wing, those little armchair rear wing endplates,” said Kravitz.
“If it’s according to the rules, it’s a possible path to take. And who knows, maybe we’ll copy something from Aston Martin instead of the other way around,” said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner in reference to the copying dispute between the Austria-based racing team and Aston Martin.

"Als het volgens de regels is, is het een mogelijke weg om te bewandelen. En wie weet, misschien kopiëren wij dan ook een keer wat van Aston Martin in plaats van andersom." #F1

This time around, according to Kravitz, it is the same and Aston Martin communicated with the sport’s regulating body at every point. However, Kravitz still vocalized his doubts on whether the remodeling was legal in any way or not.
