McLaren aspire to join Red Bull and Ferrari up top, after passing first test of the season

McLaren, after the struggles they went through in and ahead of the Bahrain testing, seems to have passed with the performance they showed in the last (Imola) race.

McLaren in the first race saw themselves back to where they were in 2017. Struggling, to even get on the points. The improvements over the years brought them to the third of Constructors at the end of the 2020 season.

After 2021 they saw themselves on fourth, which didn’t make much of a difference. Since points per race are something that made a difference in the campaigns. With 11.8 points per race in 2020, they got ahead to 12.5 in 2021. Even in numbers, with 2 and 5 podiums, excluding a race win in Monza.

But 2022 wasn’t the start they wanted to witness. With no points in the first race and only 6 points in the second race, no one expected them to stand tall this season. Which they later did. Getting to the podium only after 2 races to Jeddah, the improvement was exponential.

McLaren’s executive Zak Brown and team principal Andreas Seidl have expectations for the sun to shine after the rise in Imola. Seidl appreciated his team’s efforts and the amount of work they gave since the decline in Bahrain, which helped the team to improve and reach a stable mark in Imola.

“It was important to stay calm, protect the team and give everyone the chance to just keep getting on with their job,” Seidl in reports according to The Race

Later he also talks about the trust that everyone had within the team, that’s what benchmarked their return “And trust that we have everything within the team in order to come back stronger.”

It’s great to see how the team was dealing with the challenge of the Bahrain race weekend, how everyone stayed calm and united and simply kept their head down and kept working together as one team through the challenges,” said Seidl.

Brown joined McLaren in the Hondas era and Seidl in 2019 needed a lot of excisions. They managed to get McLaren to a position which ensures a step ahead will give them the ultimate fruit, the thing they have been thriving for. Fighting for wins on regular basis.
