F1 to rename the Las Vegas GP ‘paddock’ building due to a past tragedy
Formula 1 is set to rename the ‘paddock’ building for the Las Vegas Grand Prix due to a connection with a tragic event. The term ‘paddock’ typically refers to the pit or garage building in F1. However, the association with the name ‘Stephen Paddock,’ the perpetrator of the 2017 91 Harvest Festival shootings in Las Vegas, where 60 people lost their lives, has prompted officials to reconsider its use.
Stephanie Allen, a representative of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, commented on it as reported by F1Briefings.
Las Vegas Grand Prix is sensitive and has been recently informed about the correlation of the use of the word Paddock on their building site.
While F1 officials acknowledge the community’s feelings, they emphasize that the term ‘paddock’ is a standard reference for such facilities in every race.
In response to the concerns raised, officials have confirmed their commitment to renaming the paddock building, aiming to address the sensitivity of the situation. The new name for the building, was recently revealed by the officials. The paddock building will simply be referred to as the ‘Pit Building’ at the awaited Grand Prix weekend. This move reflects F1’s dedication to maintaining respect and consideration for local sentiments in hosting Grand Prix events.
