Kevin Magnussen has a race seat secured with the Haas F1 team for the 2023 season and ahead of the Italian Grand Prix has indicated that he is pleased with the job that his teammate Mick Schumacher has done so far in the ongoing campaign.

Mick Schumacher’s F1 future is in limbo at the moment, as despite garnering a lot of interest from various F1 teams, the 23-year-old is still without a drive for next season and as things stand, it is looking more and more likely that Haas is the best bet that he has got of securing a seat for next season.

During Thursday’s press conference, Kevin Magnussen was asked to give his take on the second seat on the Haas team and while talking about it said,We need fast drivers, and drivers that are consistent, can help the team move forward.”

“But I think right now we [Haas F1 Team] have me and Mick, and it’s not going too badly, I think, so I don’t really have any strong opinions either way.

“It’s up to Guenther and, of course, the management to sort that one out. I’m not here to speculate or be involved in that.”

The 2022 F1 season is 15 races down and Magnussen so far has managed to amass 22 points compared to the 12 that Schumacher has scored.

The Dane has been the more consistent of the two drivers but despite this fact, Magnussen feels that his less experienced teammate should be given some credit for the job that he has done.

While talking about his teammate Magnussen said, “Again, I’m not here to really take part in that. I don’t really have an opinion on that. I think Mick is doing a good job, and that’s all I can say.”

Kevin Magnussen, on one hand, has praised Mick Schumacher but on the other has also stressed that he has no influence over the second seat on the team.

As things stand, there are many drivers available in the driver market, and considering that former 8-time Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo is also one of them, it is going to be fascinating to see how the second seat situation on the American team will develop in the upcoming months.
