Mick Schumacher certain to terminate partnership with Ferrari at the end of 2022

Mick Schumacher certain to terminate partnership with Ferrari at the end of 2022

Mick Schumacher, the son of the seven time world champion Michael Schumacher has decided not to renew his contract with the Ferrari Driver Academy. The 23 year old German was under contract with the Italians until the 2022 season, but there seems to be no new commitment at the point giving him free reign to go anywhere he wants to.

Mick has yet to be drafted for a seat in the upcoming 2023 season, with his renewal at a seat in Haas looking bleak. Since he will not be receiving continued support from Ferrari, the German could be looking for a seat in another team since he will no longer be tied to Maranello.

Mick has scored a total 12 points so far in the season, which is 10 less than his teammate Kevin Magnussen, who has scored a total of 22 points this season. The German is at risk of losing his seat at Haas for the coming 2023 Formula 1 season, with Haas looking at Antonio Giovinazzi as a strong candidate to replace him. Kevin Magnussen has already been confirmed for the next season.

With the young driver possibly not renewing his seat at Haas for the next season, he could be looking towards other opportunities. After Sebastian Vettel had announced his retirement at the end of the 2022 season, he urged his fans to direct their support towards Mick as he needed it most. He hoped Mick would be the one to occupy the vacant seat at Aston Martin, but that was short lived when Fernando Alonso announced his move from Alpine to Aston Martin.

The 23 year old could be looking towards teams such as Alpine for a seat next year, with Fernando Alonso moving to Aston Martin one seat is yet to be filled at Alpine. Esteban Ocon has shown his enthusiasm at the possibility of working with Mick and when asked about his preferred second driver he stated, “I said to the bosses that my preference would be Mick Schumacher.”

This season has been a tricky one for the rookie, with him failing to score points for the team quite a few times. However, with 9 races left in the season, there is a possibility that Mick can score some much needed points for the team and himself and close the gap between him and his teammate.
