Mick Schumacher was an extremely promising talent after winning the Formula 2 championship, earning him a seat with Haas. Initially partnering and beating Nikita Mazepin with a terrible car, the German moved on to a better one in 2022 with Kevin Magnussen as a teammate. Some expensive mistakes throughout the season cost Schumacher his seat, leaving him off the grid.
Mercedes proceeded to hire Schumacher as a reserve driver, after having his father drive for them 11 years ago in 2012. The seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher’s son did a great job for his father’s former team, impressing Toto Wolff. Schumacher was not offered the WIlliams seat for 2024, but he firmly believes that he deserves a spot on the grid and will prove it.
I will be keeping very close ties to Formula 1. Hopefully, that will allow me to prove... I still deserve a chance.
Mick Schumacher was almost evenly matched with his teammate Kevin Magnussen, with some standout performances in 2022. However, Haas declared that they were looking for a more experienced lineup, hiring Nico Hulkenberg to replace his compatriot Mick Schumacher.
Mick Schumacher hopes the Alpine WEC drive will boost him to F1
Mick Schumacher has gotten himself involved with every racing opportunity possible following his involuntary departure from the Haas team, joining Mercedes as a reserve driver. The Germans also took a further opportunity with Alpine.
Schumacher has agreed to a deal with the French team to race in the WEC with them in the hypercar category with the Alpine A424. The 24-year-old was selected from a pool of multiple drivers and will be competing in the 24h of Le Mans as well in 2024. Mick Schumacher is confident that this will aid his chances of getting an F1 seat for 2025.
Unfortunately a lot of the contracts are multi-year deals so there is not really an opening for next year. So, it’s a bit of a tough spot to be in, but for 2025 there is a lot more openings and we will have to see.Mick Schumacher said, via autox
