“My ears are bleeding,” Fans on Twitter outrage as F1 announcers mispronounce Zhou Guanyu’s name during the US grand prix weekend

Zhou Guanyu
Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu is one of F1’s rookie’s competing with Alfa Romeo Sauber this year in the pinnacle of motorsport. Having finished 3rd in F2 last year, the young driver was promoted to Formula 1 as he got a seat with the aforementioned team. With the US Grand Prix set to be a banger of a race, Zhou had set his sights on a points finish for the race. However, this idea did not seem to turn into reality.
Zhou Guanyu has had a tough rookie season so far in F1 with 19 starts to his name and just 6 point’s accumulated. The #24 driver has suffered multiple retirements over the season where he was bound to be getting a points finish. The US grand prix weekend was a place where it was possible for the Chinese driver to score points. However that didn’t seem to be the case as he finished in P11. Just outside the points with Alonso’s post race penalty in mind.
Nevertheless this doesn’t overshadow the fact that the individuals hired by F1 to announce the drivers should have done a better job to pronounce the driver’s name correctly. Mispronouncing it like that not only is disrespectful but also a bad look for Formula one during a weekend where viewership will be on it’s peak. Here is how the fans reacted to this absurd moment on Twitter.

The US grand prix ended with Max Verstappen grabbing the win and Lewis Hamilton completing the podium along with Charles Leclerc at a race that seemed to be a jaw dropper for the fans. Zhou Guanyu’s 11th place finish is still a good effort considering his teammates lost the rear and put his car in the gravel. The last 3 races will be crucial in deciding who amongst Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin will grab 6th place in the Constructors championship.
