“My goal is to win,” Frederic Vasseur’s light-hearted take on the “most beautiful challenge” that Ferrari brings

Frederic Vasseur

Frederic Vasseur is the team principal of Scuderia Ferrari. This comes after the controversial exit of Mattia Binotto. Vasseur was previously the CEO and team principal of Alfa Romeo. Joining a high-profile team like Ferrari is every team principal’s goal. To accomplish the goals for the team is a heavy task. Fred Vasseur is a man with quite a personality in the paddock.

As Ferrari’s new non-Italian team principal, Vasseur aims to use all his experience gained over the years with the team. He is aware of what he wants and what he does’t want and will use his years of knowledge wisely to help the team succeed in the sport. The team is desperate to win championships, they got the taste of it last season when their car was the best on the grid for a brief moment. It was short-lived as Red Bull crashed their party.

Being the competitor that he is, Vasseur’s goal in Formula One is to win. While speaking to Cafecremesport, he was asked about the pressure that comes with being Ferrari’s team principal especially now that he has the chance to claim a world title. “My goal in F1 is to win! And winning with Ferrari, with everything around, is the most beautiful challenge, the most beautiful of projects”.There is no special pressure, but we must always have ambitious goals. When you’re at Sauber and you have to finish 6th, it’s very ambitious. You always have to make the parallel, sometimes I am much happier with myself when you do P8 in qualifying, than Toto when he does the pole,” joked the French man.

Vasseur explained how the pressure is proportional to the goals set by him. He does not deny the pressure that comes with his new job but assures he will manage it wisely. Ferrari had a good advantage at the beginning of last season. Eventually, due to reliability issues, communication problems and strategic errors, the team lost out on a lot of points.

Vasseur chose to look at the positive side where they came 2nd in the championship ahead of Mercedes and were right in the front competing for wins if not for the errors. He hopes to fix these issues and make the objective clear, which is to progress, and move forward.

Ferrari have made quite a jump in 2022 compared to 2021, they excelled at the start of last season and will continue to bring improvements in 2023. Their car launch is on 14th February and the team has announced the name of their new car, SF23.
