“Next year the fight on track will arrive,” Stefano Domenicali ‘extremely confident’ about seeing a closer grid in 2023

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali
Stefano Domenicali, the F1 CEO has recently talked about the new regulations that were brought before the start of the 2022 season and indicated that next year, the grid is going to get closer.
The current campaign saw the dawn of a new era in the sport with the change in regulations, and while they have helped in bringing down the gap between the various teams, Stefano Domenicali is confident that the gap is going to get closed down further next year.
However, despite the new rules, Red Bull has run away with the Championship with Max Verstappen as Ferrari slipped backward after the initial races of the season.
A lot has been made of the new regulations until now, but Domenicali is adamant that the impact of the new regulations has been positive, and feels that Ferrari was not able to keep up their challenge, because they missed their opportunities during the season.

While stressing about the same, he added, “In this case, Red Bull, and Max Verstappen, did an incredible job, maybe it’s another team that didn’t take the right opportunity.”
“But what we saw on the track, the wheel-to-wheel racing, that’s what we wanted. And I’m totally confident that next year the fight on the track will arrive [until] the end of the calendar.”
Stefano Domenicali believes that there is still a lot of interest in the remaining two races of the 2022 F1 season

The 2022 F1 calendar has got two races left where Max Verstappen has already secured the Drivers title and Red Bull has also got its hand on the Constructors Championship.
However, despite both the Championship getting decided ahead of Abu Dhabi, Domenicali feels there is still a lot of interest as barring Red Bull, the other teams are still jocking for various positions in the Constructors standings.
“The last races, on the sporting side, there is a lot of attention, there is a fight for places that also for the team’s perspective is related to their financial position and the financial reward if they achieve a position better than the other teams.”
“So I think that there would be a lot of interest in Brazil and Abu Dhabi too, no problem.”
While stressing about the last two races he further added, “We don’t see any kind of risk at all.”

“First of all, we have the last two races we sold out tickets and the numbers are really growing. The attention will be shifted, of course, to other fights from the sporting perspective. That’s part of racing.”
The 2022 F1 season has somewhat delivered on the promises that were made ahead of the season and considering that the grid has also got a bit closer this year, what are you expecting from the 2023 season of the sport?
