“No one ever calls me Andrew” – George Russell and Mercedes’ trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin have a banter on the radio after the former’s podium finish at Monza
The Italian Grand Prix was not without its drama and excitement but ended on a dull note with the drivers finishing the race behind the Safety Car. George Russell the rookie who transferred to Mercedes this season was especially happy with the outcome as he was able to secure a podium in the race.
The rookie was especially happy with his podium position as it was under threat from a rapidly approaching Carlos Sainz. With the podium secured in Monza, Russell currently has scored 7 podiums this season he could not be more pleased with the results. The team has also shown their appreciation for the rookie as well.
While thanking his teammates for their help during the race, he called Andrew Shovlin by his given name to which the 48 year old trackside engineering director responded saying, “No one ever calls me Andrew.”
The banter between the two shows how well Russell has integrated himself with the team but also the slight friction between himself and his teammates on the pitwall.

A recent tweet by Mercedes surfaced which showed George Russell calling Andrew by his given name and the latter responding by saying, “No one calls me Andrew.” This shows the chemistry between the team and Russell and the fans love it.
The banter between the two sparked a chain of reactions and retweets among the fans. They have showed their love towards the humor by saying things like, “sounds like a sitcom script.” Another user tweeted saying, “content I’m here for.”
Another fan tweeted on George’s arrogance saying, “Wash your mouth out George. You had your pompous voice on there mate. Arrogance of youth once again showing its head? I feel a prank coming on Andy?”
The 24-year-old British driver has proved himself time and again to the team and despite being his first year with Mercedes he has performed beyond their expectations. The fans absolutely adore him and are excited to see how he performs in future races and where he will place this season.
